AQ Alarms on Dashboard

How to set up and monitor air quality alarms and related email notifications

What is an AQ Alarm?

An Air Quality (AQ) Alarm is triggered when a measurement from one or more Datasources exceeds a defined threshold, based on an alarm rule you configure. AQ alarms help you monitor pollution events in real-time and take appropriate action.

What is an Alarm Rule?

An alarm rule determines the conditions for triggering an AQ alarm. Each rule includes:

  • Name (e.g. “High PM2.5”)

  • Metric (e.g. PM2.5 mass concentration, 1-hour mean)

  • Threshold value (e.g. 50 µg/m³)

  • Comparison operator (e.g. >, >=, <, <=)

  • Datasources in scope (e.g. custom list or all in organization)

A look back period will also be automatically selected, which is the time that must pass without any measurements exceeding the alarm threshold for it to clear

Where can I view recent AQ Alarms?

Navigate to the AQ Alarms section of Dashboard to view:

  • A chart showing the number of active alarms over the past 7 days
  • A log table of recent active and cleared alarms

You can toggle between chart and table views using the Chart/Table switch. Click on any alarm in the log to see detailed information.

Will I be notified when a new AQ Alarm is triggered?

If you are subscribed to notifications, you’ll receive an email alert each time a new AQ alarm is triggered. AQ alarm stats also appear in your weekly Dashboard Digest email.

How do I subscribe to email notifications?

On the AQ Alarms page, toggle the switch labeled “Receive an email when a new air quality alarm is triggered”.

You can also manage notifications from your user profile under notification preferences.

Note: Notification preferences are per user - they don’t affect others in your organization.

How do I create or manage an alarm rule?

To create a new rule:

  1. Click + Add Rule in the AQ Alarms section.

  2. Fill in the form with rule specifications.

  3. Review and click Create.

Note: The system automatically converts gas concentration thresholds to ppb for consistency, even if you enter them in µg/m³.

To edit a rule:

  1. Click the rule in the table.

  2. Choose Edit under Actions.

  3. Complete the Edit flow, which is similar to the create one.
  4. The system creates a new version (e.g. [v2]) with updated specification, and archives the old one for record keeping.

Note: Editing an alarm rule creates a new version of the rule. Past alarms are not affected by edits—you will still see historical alarms associated with the previous rule version. The new version will only apply to future data checks.

To archive a rule:

  1. Click the rule in the table.

  2. Select Archive under Actions.

  3. Archived rules will no longer trigger alarms and can be visualized by clicking view next to Archived.

Things to keep in mind

  • AQ alarms will not be triggered by QC invalid measurements and measurement missing calibration.

  • Alarms involving Reference Datasources may be delayed due to third-party data latency.
