      Deploying the Clarity Dust Module

      How to pair and set up a Clarity Multi-Gas Module with a Node-S in the field.

       IMPORTANT:
      • You must first charge, assemble, and configure the Clarity Node-S devices before connecting the Dust Module. If you have not yet configured the Node-S, please find instructions here before proceeding with the instructions below. 
      • Not all versions of the Clarity Node-S can be paired with the Dust Module. Please read this article for instructions on how to check Node-S and Module compatibility. 
      • The Dust Module requires the Clarity Node-S to operate on external power. Therefore, the solar panel can be removed if using the Clarity Node-S with the Dust Module.
        • An optional Clarity External Solar Solution (ESS) may be used to power the node and any attached modules, including the Dust Module.
      • The Dust Module must be oriented correctly to be weatherproof. The long inlet tube should point straight up towards the sky. Incorrect deployment may allow moisture to enter the device, voiding the warranty.
      • When not in use, please store the Dust Module in the original packaging.
      • If a return to Clarity is needed, please return the module in the original packaging to prevent damage to the units.

      For deployment, you will also need the following equipment (not included):

      • A Phillips head screwdriver
      • Stainless steel zip ties, hose clamps, binding straps, or screws for mounting that are appropriate for your site(s)

      Pair the Module in Dashboard

      To use an accessory module, it must be paired with a Node-S device. Pairing a module with a Node-S device informs the Clarity system that the two are connected, allowing the module to begin sending data to the Clarity cloud.

      1. Before beginning your module pairing, make sure your Node-S is configured. Review the instructions for configuring your node here.
      2. Sign in to your Clarity Dashboard and navigate to Modules under Devices. Click Pair a module.
      3. Scan the QR code on the Module or select the correct Module ID from the inventory. Confirm the information on the screen matches what is found on the Module ID sticker.
      4. Confirm both the Module ID and Type are correct. Click Next Step.
      1. If a Module was previously paired with a Node, you must unpair it before continuing to pair with a new Node. To do so, click Unpair.

      2. Input the Node ID of the Node-S that you will be pairing the Module with, or select the Node ID from the drop-down menu. This Node ID can be found on the bottom of the Node-S device. Nodes that are not compatible with the Module or are already paired are grayed out in the dropdown menu. Click Pair.

      3. You will see a message indicating that device pairing was successful. Continue to assemble and deploy the Module. If you see any errors, contact support@clarity.io for help.

      Assemble the Module

      1. Attach the mounting brackets to the back of the Dust Module. Your box includes a mounting plate, a pole mounting bracket, and eight (8) screws.
        1. First, attach the larger mounting plate to the body of the Dust Module using four (4) screws.
        2. Then, the optional pole mount bracket can be rotated and secured to the larger mounting bracket using the remaining four (4) screws, depending on the direction of the railing or pole. 
          1. If you are mounting the Dust Module to a wall or panel, do not use the pole mounting bracket. Instead, rely on the flaps on the sides of the mounting plate.

      Connect the Module to the Clarity Node-S


      Tip: We recommend performing a connection test before deployment in the field to ensure data are being uploaded to the Clarity Dashboard.

      Note: The Dust Module requires the Clarity Node-S to be externally powered, so the Node solar panel is not needed.

      1. Power on the Clarity Node-S by first plugging in the external power adapter to the Clarity Node-S body.
      2. Then plug the power adapter into the external power source. The Node-S device will play the Power On sound.

      3. Unscrew the cap covering the module port and plug the accessory cable into the Clarity Node-S body by aligning the cable pins and tightening the threaded connector nut several turns until finger-tight; do not use a wrench. Ensure the adjacent Node antenna connector is also finger-tight and the antenna is pointing vertically up.

      4. Plug the cable into the Dust Module and tighten using the threaded connector nut.
      5. You will hear the Node-S Power On sound again as the device resets.

      6. Please wait as the Clarity Node-S establishes cellular connection at your site. This may take anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes, depending on signal strength. 
        1. If the node fails to connect, you will hear the Node-S Connection Failure sound. If this happens, please confirm the device has been configured on the Dashboard first. If this doesn't resolve the issue, please contact support@clarity.io.

        2. If you hear a Node-S Low Battery sound, please charge the device for at least 24 hours before proceeding.

        3. If the Node-S Connection Successful sound plays, proceed to deploy the device.

      1. After a successful connection to Clarity Cloud, the device will attempt to communicate with the module. You will hear one of the following sounds:  
        1. Successful Module Connection sound, if the module is working properly
        2. Failed Module Connection sound, if there are issues communicating with the module. In this case, please check the cable connection between the Clarity Node-S and the Module. 
        3. Module Configuration Error sound, if Clarity Node-S is not configured properly. Ensure that the module and node are paired in Dashboard, and unplug and replug the Node-S solar panel cable. If this does not resolve the issue, contact support@clarity.io.

      Deploy the Node-S + Dust Module in the Field

       

        The Clarity Node-S + Dust Module must be properly sites to provide accurate data.  
      1. Ensure that the Dust module is properly oriented: 
        1. The text must be legible when viewed from the front (see picture above).
        2. The inlet tube should point directly toward the sky. Failure to do so may result in water damage.
        3. The inlet tube should also be unobstructed to allow for adequate air flow. Ideally, there should be >270° of free airflow around the inlet. There should be no less than 180° free air flow.
        4. Avoid installing near known sources of heat and moisture (e.g., an external HVAC unit), and direct pollution sources (e.g., a restaurant's exhaust vent).
        5. Maintain a vertical gap of at least 25 cm (10 in) above the Dust module to ensure unobstructed inlet airflow and prevent water splashing between the devices in case of heavy rain.
      2. After the site has been selected, mount the Clarity Node-S device to the designated pole, wall, or panel.
        1. To make installation easier, you can temporarily detach the Dust Module cable from the Node-S module port.
        2. Use stainless steel zip ties, hose clamps, or screws (not provided). 
        3. Ensure the inlet is pointing upwards and unobstructed.
        4. Ensure the cable can reach the Dust Module.

      3. Mount the Dust Module to the designated pole or wall.
      4. Reattach the Dust Module cable to the Clarity Node-S body after both devices are securely installed.
      5. Listen for the following sounds in succession:
        1. Node-S Power On sound 
        2. Node-S Connection Successful sound
        3. Successful Module Connection sound
