Clarity Cloud software overview

How the Clarity Cloud software supports comprehensive air quality data management and analysis, and remote sensor network management

Clarity Cloud is a comprehensive software suite designed to complement the air quality monitoring hardware.

Under the hood, Clarity Cloud acts as an integrated data pipeline, performing essential tasks like calibrating and quality-checking sensor data, securely storing it, and making it consistently and securely accessible to users. For users, it provides a platform to manage sensor networks, organize and visualize monitoring data, and easily share air quality insights with stakeholders or the public.

The primary components of Clarity Cloud are:

  • Clarity Dashboard: An intuitive, real-time interface that allows users to access and interpret monitoring data, manage their sensor networks, review the operational status of devices, and control user access and data permissions.
  • Clarity API: Designed for users needing programmatic access, the API enables integration with existing systems and supports advanced analyses in environments like R or Python, allowing for flexible, custom data applications.
  • Clarity OpenMap: This public platform provides a clear, interactive map for sharing air quality data with communities, fostering transparency and encouraging public engagement.

Clarity emphasizes data ownership and security, ensuring that customer organizations are the exclusive owners of their data. Clarity does not share data with third parties without user consent, and provides full access to all raw data from Node-S devices and Modules, with no hidden information.

Clarity Dashboard

Clarity Dashboard is a password protected web application that simplifies air quality data visualization and sensor network management. After setting up an organization on the Dashboard, users create accounts to access resources. The first step is configuring Node-S devices and modules in parallel with field deployment. Once deployed, devices start streaming air quality measurements and telemetry via the cellular network, making data accessible on Dashboard.

The main features of the Clarity Dashboard include:

  • Real-Time Data Access: View live air quality measurements and device status reports, enabling quick and responsive management.

  • Air Quality Data Analysis: Use interactive maps and charts for seamless data analysis. Additional visualizations are available for Add-on Modules, expanding insights before moving to advanced offline analysis.

  • Remote Device Management: Monitor the operational status of sensors across your network, identify offline devices, and use built-in tools to troubleshoot issues.

  • Automated Quality Control: Our system applies QC flags to measured values based on understanding of air pollution, sensor technology, and known failure modes. Then it computes an overall QC assessment based on the severity of each flag. This makes it easy to filter out invalid measurements from analyses and public data sharing.

  • Historical Data Download: Visualize and download data from custom time periods as CSV or Parquet files for detailed reporting.

  • Collaboration and Data Sharing Control: Invite team members for collaborative analysis, assign limited access for Guests, and control data visibility to share publicly or keep private.

OpenMap

Clarity OpenMap is a public air quality data-sharing platform designed for community access to real-time PM2.5 and AQI information. Organizations can easily choose to share their data on OpenMap through a simple checkbox in the Clarity Dashboard, adding to a growing repository of publicly available air quality information. OpenMap empowers communities with accurate air quality insights, enabling residents to monitor current conditions and track long-term trends in their neighborhoods. This data supports local advocacy for cleaner air and helps drive positive environmental changes.

Key Features:

  • Real-Time Air Quality Data: Displays hourly NowCast AQIs for up-to-date air quality conditions.
  • Historical Trends Visualization: Day, week, month, and year views reveal pollution patterns over time.
  • Accessibility: Simplified visuals allow easy exploration and comparison of data across different locations.
  • Transparency: Information on calculation methods and data sources promotes trust and understanding.

OpenMap can be embedded directly into an organization’s website via iFrame, making it easy to share insights with a broader audience.

API

The Clarity API is a REST API provided by Clarity Movement Co. that allows users to access data from their Clarity Air Monitoring network. It offers endpoints that return resources in JSON and tabular formats. The API is designed to be easily accessible and integrable, enabling users to retrieve recent and historical air quality measurements, and network management data.

The Clarity API enables customer organizations to easily and continuously integrate their Clarity air quality data with existing systems, data analysis notebooks, GIS applications, environmental models, or third-party dashboards.
